StanceMarker Data Processing Terms

Version 1.0 — July 2026

By creating a StanceMarker account, you agree to the following:

1. Your role. You confirm that you are a teacher (or authorised school staff member) and that your school — or you, where you act independently — is the responsible party under POPIA for any learner work you upload. You confirm you are entitled to submit that work for AI-assisted marking.

2. Our role. StanceMarker processes uploaded essays only as your operator: solely to transcribe, mark, and generate feedback for you, and for no other purpose. We never sell learner data and never use it to train AI models.

3. What you must not upload. Do not include learner contact details, ID numbers, medical or other special personal information in uploads. Use initials or student codes rather than full names where your school requires it.

4. You stay the marker. All AI-generated marks and comments are suggestions. You review, edit, or override them before any use. StanceMarker outputs support your professional judgement; they do not replace it.

5. Storage and AI processing. Data is stored on secure, encrypted infrastructure in the EU, and essay text is processed by Anthropic's Claude API (US) under contractual protections consistent with POPIA section 72, as described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Deletion. You can delete any essay at any time, and may request deletion of your account and all associated data at [privacy@stancemarker.co.za]. Verified school or parent deletion requests are actioned within 30 days.

7. Breach. If learner data you uploaded is affected by a security incident, we will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware.
